There are events that improve your fitness. And then there are events that remind you why community matters.

Tthis Saturday, we had the privilege of welcoming Fabio Spiteri, one of Malta's leading endurance athletes, finisher of Double Deca, for a Running Workshop unlike any we've hosted before.

The goal wasn't simply to run. It was to understand how to run better.

Whether someone was preparing for HYROX, CrossFit competitions, road races, Deadly Dozen, or simply wanted running to feel easier, every participant arrived with one thing in common: they wanted to improve.

And that's exactly what Fabio delivered.

Why Running Technique Matters

Most people think the solution to becoming a better runner is simple: run more. In reality, running more while moving inefficiently often leads to the opposite result.

Poor mechanics can mean:

  • Higher energy cost
  • Earlier fatigue
  • Reduced performance
  • Greater risk of overuse injuries

Learning to run efficiently doesn't just make you faster. It helps you enjoy running more.

That's why the workshop focused on practical skills participants could immediately apply to their own training. Topics included:

  • Running posture
  • Cadence and rhythm
  • Efficient foot strike
  • Breathing
  • Pacing strategies
  • Warm-up drills
  • Mobility
  • Injury prevention

Instead of overwhelming everyone with theory, Fabio broke each concept into simple exercises that immediately changed how people moved.

Running Isn't Just for Runners

One thing we love reminding people at CrossFit Martell is this: you don't have to call yourself "a runner" to benefit from better running.

If you do CrossFit, running is part of many workouts. If you're preparing for HYROX, running makes up half the race.

If you play football...

Run trails...

Take part in obstacle races...

Or simply want to keep up with your children...

Better running makes life easier.

Improving efficiency means covering the same distance using less energy. That's valuable regardless of your sport.

A Morning Bigger Than Fitness

While everyone came to improve their running, something even more meaningful happened. Every participant donated to attend the workshop.

100% of those proceeds will go directly to support animal shelters in Malta.

Fitness has an incredible ability to bring people together. Being able to combine education, movement, and helping animals made this event even more special. It's something we're incredibly proud of.
