Hey, I'm Vitaly — head coach here at CrossFit Martell.

If you're reading this, you're probably curious. Maybe a little unsure. That's completely fine — most people who walk through our door feel exactly the same way before they come in. So let me just walk you through what actually happens when you show up, from the very first step.

 

Before You Even Touch a Barbell

The first thing we do is talk. Not a sales pitch. Not a tour of the equipment. Just a real conversation — you and me, or one of our coaches — about you.

Where you're coming from. What you've tried before. What's worked, what hasn't, and what you're actually hoping for.

If you've had a knee injury, a bad back, a shoulder that's been giving you grief for years — tell us. That's exactly the kind of thing we need to know, and exactly the kind of thing we'll work around. Nothing gets ignored, nothing gets pushed through.

If your last experience with a gym left you feeling lost, invisible, or just plain bored — tell us that too. We genuinely want to know what you're walking in with, so we can make sure you walk out feeling something different.

By the time the class starts, your coach already knows who you are.

 

Walking Into the Gym

You'll be greeted — not with a clipboard and a waiver, but by name, by a person who was expecting you.

The group is small. Twelve people maximum, always. So when you look around the room, you're not staring at a sea of strangers doing things you don't recognise. You're in a room with people who were once exactly where you are right now. Some of them started six months ago. Some started last week.

All of them will make you feel like you belong here — because they remember what it felt like to be new, and they haven't forgotten.

 

The Warm-Up

Every class starts the same way: together, moving, getting the body ready.

The warm-up isn't just jogging in circles. It's purposeful — designed to prepare the exact muscles and movements you'll be using in that day's session. It's also where you start to feel the rhythm of the class, loosen up, and realise that whatever you were nervous about on the way here is already starting to dissolve.

 

Skill Work or Strength

Before the main workout, we spend time building something — either a technical skill or strength work.

This is where coaching really happens. Your coach is watching how you move, giving you cues, making small adjustments. Because we already spoke before class, we already know what to look for with you specifically. The way we coach you won't be the same as how we coach the person next to you — and that's exactly the point.

Every movement has progressions. Easier versions, harder versions, and everything in between. You'll always be doing the right version for where you are right now — not a watered-down version, just your version.

 

The Workout

This is the part people have heard about. The WOD — Workout of the Day. It's different every session. Some days it's a few heavy lifts. Some days it's a fast-moving circuit. Some days it'll surprise you.

But here's what stays the same: your coach has already adjusted it for you before the clock starts. The weights, the movements, the target time — all dialled in based on what they know about you.

You'll work hard. You'll probably surprise yourself. And when it's done, that feeling — the one where you're catching your breath and grinning at the same time — that's the one our members keep coming back for.

 

After the Class

You won't just be handed a towel and pointed toward the exit.

We cool down together. We talk. And more often than not, you'll find yourself in a conversation with someone you just met who feels like you've known them for years. That's just how this gym works.

Most people leave their first class with one thought:

“I can actually do this.”

Not “that was okay.” Not “I survived.” But a genuine sense that this is something they can build on — something that fits, something that feels right.
