So, you’ve decided to try CrossFit. First of all — hell yes.
That’s already a big win. Stepping into a CrossFit box for the first time can feel exciting, intimidating, and downright sweaty (yes, even before the warm-up). But don’t worry — at CrossFit Martell, we’ve got your back every step, squat, and burpee of the way.
Here’s your guide to your first month of CrossFit — what to expect, how to thrive, and why you’ll probably surprise yourself more than once.
Let’s be honest: CrossFit sounds like another language at first.
EMOM, AMRAP, WOD, RX, scaled, box, snatch, thruster — what is this, code?
You’ll hear a lot of new terms in your first week. Don’t stress. Our coaches will break it down, translate every abbreviation, and demo every movement. No pop quizzes.
You’ll also start moving in ways your body might not be used to. Think: squats, deadlifts, rowing, bike sprints, wall balls — functional stuff. Your job? Show up. Try. Listen. Ask.
Tip: The goal isn’t to be good, it’s to get better.
Oh, hi DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness). Yes, your body’s talking. That’s normal.
Week 2 is when reality hits: your body is being challenged, your muscles are waking up, and you’re probably realizing just how heavy a 12kg kettlebell can feel. But it’s also when things start to click — you’ll remember names, find a rhythm, and maybe even start to enjoy the grind.
“I didn’t think I could do that.”
That’s the CrossFit effect.
By now, you know the drill: check in, vibe to the music, and get ready to sweat.
You’ll probably recognize faces, start joking with your coach, and maybe even partner up with someone who pushed you last week.
That nervous feeling you had in week 1? Gone.
Now it’s confidence with a touch of soreness.
And most importantly, you start realizing: you’re not doing this alone.
This is where the magic happens.
You’ll look back and realize:
– You’re moving better.
– You’re recovering faster.
– You’re actually excited to come train.
